Construction Begins Soon on NEW Rose Street Parking Lot

The work to complete the Rose Street Parking lot on the site of old City Hall and the surrounding land will occur this fall.  The construction is expected to take 4-5 weeks to complete.  Portions of the lot will be closed during construction, but efforts will be made to leave portions open for parking when possible.

When old City Hall was demolished, the City planned to simply shape and pave the building area and stripe in additional parking stalls on the vacated site.  The scope of the project was limited to the property under ownership/control of the City due to disinterest by surrounding property owners in doing a larger parking project.

Over the course of 2015-2016, changes in property ownership and new interest allowed the City to contemplate a larger parking project with better drainage, safety, and aesthetics.  The finished parking lot will have 67 public parking spaces - a gain of 26 spaces over the old lot. The lot will also accommodate stormwater management and feature pedestrian walkways and lighting.  Residents who are familiar with the Kowalski's parking lot in Excelsior will see similarities in design and feel of the Rose Street Parking lot at completion.

The City Council awarded and completed Phase I of the project in 2016.  Work included in Phase II was approved by the City Council on June 26, 2017.
