Snow & Ice Removal Guidelines

City of Victoria snow and ice removal guidelines

With winter arriving, Victoria Public Works would like to provide residents some guidelines to follow when it comes to snow and ice removal.

Residents should make sure that mailboxes are secure, fire hydrants are accessible, and sidewalks are clear. Under city code, property owners with a front or side sidewalk are required to clean snow and ice from them within 24 hours of a snowfall.  Additionally, snow from private driveways must be kept-off of public sidewalks and streets.  Residents should inform contracted snow removal companies of this requirement.

Parking on city streets - under city code, no parking is allowed on any city street after a 2” or more snowfall. Parked cars on streets make plowing very difficult and make the streets unsafe for other drivers. Plows are not able to remove snow from curb to curb and will likely leave cars that are on the street difficult to access.

For more information on the city’s snowplowing, snow and ice control policy, visit the website at www.ci.victoria.mn.us under Public Works.
