Election Judges

Election judges are temporary, paid employees trained to oversee voting and assist voters at the polling places. This is a great opportunity to learn about elections and serve your community.

The City of Victoria has opened the application for election judges for the 2024 elections.

Election Judge Duties
Election judges are needed to work at the polling locations to supervise and help with elections. If you are 18 years or older and an eligible voter, you may qualify to serve as an election judge.

Dates of Duties
Presidential Primary: March 5, 2024
Minnesota State Primary: August 13, 2024
General Election: Tuesday, November 5, 2024

Hours of Duties
  • Election judge hours are 6 a.m. to finish.  
  • The General Election has write-in votes that need to be counted at end of night. Normally, work wraps up between 10 p.m. - 11 p.m.
  • Election judges can take shifts or work the full time.
    • Full Day (6 a.m. - Close)
    • Morning Shift (6 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.)
    • Afternoon Shift (2 p.m. - Close)
    • Evening Shift (5 p.m. - Close)
List of Duties
  • Open and close the polls
  • Be responsible for all election materials
  • Ensure that only qualified voters are permitted to vote and that each voter is permitted to vote only once
  • Distribute ballots
  • Tally and certify the election results

Application Process

The City of Victoria will open the application process for Election Judges for the 2024 General Election in 2024.

Basic Qualifications
  • You must be eligible to vote in Minnesota.
  • You are able to read, write and speak English.
  • If you are a relative of another judge, you cannot work in the same precinct during the same shift.
Restrictions Resulting in Ineligibility
  • If you are running for any office on the ballot or are a write-in candidate.
  • If you are a relative of a candidate that is on the ballot.
  • If you live in the same house as a candidate on the ballot.
  • If you are a challenger appointed to contest voter eligibility.
