Spring & Summer 2024 Program Highlights

The City of Victoria Parks & Recreation Spring and Summer 2024 Programs offer a wide variety of recreation programs designed to improve the quality of life for all ages. Through play, education, and events we grow individually and as a community.

This spring and summer, the Department is offering a variety of fun recreational opportunities – everything from playground camps to educational safety classes, and an Earth Day Community Walk event – to get everyone moving, exploring, and learning.

Explore Our Open Spaces in Our Parks Programs
The Victoria Parks & Recreation staff will be coming to a park near you all summer long for Playground Camps, Wonders of Wassermann Camp, and Afternoon in the Park.

Wonders_of_Wassermann-02Playground Camps
At Mini Might’s Playground Camp, we invite participants ages 4-7 years to come together with friends and neighbors to create, play, and discover. This fun-filled summer camp will meet twice a week from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at local playgrounds. Staff will lead themed games and crafts during session 1 that runs Mondays and Wednesdays, June 10-August 7 at Diethelm Park, and session 2 that runs Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 11-August 8 at Rhapsody Park.

The Colossal Kids Traveling Summer Camp will visit a local neighborhood park weekly for a summer of fun! Participants ages 7-12 years are invited to play games and make crafts at the designated playground location.

Registration for Summer Playground Camps closes on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Wonders of Wassermann Camp
Experience the Wonders of Wassermann Lake Preserve, the restored natural area nestled along the western shores of Wassermann Lake. Campers ages 8-12 years are invited to engage in group games and crafts to learn about topics such as A Bug’s Life, Nature’s Adaptions, Busy Bees, Outdoor Sportsman Archery & Fishing at one or all four of the offered sessions led by Victoria Parks & Recreation Staff and guest educators.

Afternoons in the Park
Meet neighbors in the area and rediscover all the fun recreational options this summer by heading over to the summer month’s featured park during our Afternoon in the Park series. Join in on the fun of chalk art, kickball, basketball, 4-square and so much more once a month from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the featured Victoria park.

Jump on the Opportunity to Create a Safer Victoria

Shelly Nahan, RN, BSN, PHN will be offering two safety classes this summer for our younger community members.

Babysitting Safety Class will be offered on Thursday, June 20, and Tuesday, August 6 from 8:00-11:00 a.m. at the Victoria Recreation Center to teach the skills and information necessary to care for infants and children in this American Health & Safety Institute accredited program. Participants ages 11 years and older will learn about responsibility, how to prepare for emergencies, caring for an infant or child, and how to respond to an unconscious person. Upon successful completion, participants will earn a Babysitting Training certification card.

SafeKids 101: Preparing Kids to Stay Safe at Home and in the Community
SafeKids 101: Preparing Kids to Stay Safe at Home and in the Community will be offered on Thursday, June 20, and Tuesday, August 6 from11:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m. at the Victoria Recreation Center for those ages 8-12 years of age who are ready to stay home alone after school. Get your kids trained with SafeKids 101 so you both feel more confident about safety at home and in the community.

Hands-Only CPR
A Hands-Only CPR class will be offered this spring and summer by the Victoria Fire Department to teach the basic skills of Hands-Only CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use so that you are prepared to respond in the event of a medical emergency. This class will be offered on Wednesday, May 15 and August 21 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Victoria Fire Station.


Discover New Friends in Our Community

Baseball Leagues
Younger community members are invited to build their teamwork skills this summer by participating in the Victoria Parks & Recreation Baseball Leagues.

T-Ball-02T-Ball League is offered to community members ages 4-5 years of age to learn the fundamentals of baseball, such as hitting off a tee, fielding and throwing. T-ball games will run on Mondays, June 3 through July 22 with game times between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Lions Park and Rhapsody Park ball fields.

For those ages 6-8 years, community members can participate in the Coach Pitch League which focuses on the fundamentals in a non-competitive and fun environment. Games will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 4 through July 25 between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Lions Park ball fields.

Beginning Knitting Class
Learn the basics of knitting with new friends at the Beginning Knitting Class this spring. Community members ages 16 years and older are invited to learn knitting skills such as cast on, knit, purl, and ribbed stiches to create their own hat on Tuesdays, April 16-30 from 10:00 a.m.-Noon at the Victoria Recreation Center.

Earth Day Community Walk
Celebrate Earth Day and discover new trail routes woven throughout Victoria by joining our Community Walk on Monday, April 22, 2024. Grab a friend during the day and follow one of the trail routes available on our Trail page.
